A ten minute walk west of St. Isaac's Square will
bring you to New Holland, an island formed by the
Moika, Kryukov, and Admiralteisky Canals. The red
brick buildings were used to store lumber for the
Admiralty shipyard, and in the 19th century a boat
and submarine testing pool was built on the island.
The island itself is not open to the public, but this
area is a picturesque and quiet part of the city
center.
No close metro; best to walk from St. Isaac's Square
along the Moika River.
